Anythink Continues to Rethink Public Libraries With New Self-Service Concept
COMMERCE CITY, CO — Just months after opening the nation's first Nature Library, Anythink Libraries is preparing to introduce another approach to public library services with the grand opening of its first fully self-service Express Library in Commerce City on Wednesday, October 28.

The new Anythink Reunion Express Library, located at 15400 E. 103rd Place, Unit 1000, will become the library system's ninth branch, bringing books, technology, and other public resources to the growing Reunion community through a smaller, more flexible facility.
Unlike traditional public libraries, the new location is designed to operate without employees permanently stationed inside the building. Instead, visitors will register for access and use their library cards to enter independently during extended operating hours.
The newly completed retail-style space features a curated collection of books and other materials, dedicated shelves for reserved items, self-checkout stations, and return bins. Visitors will also have access to public computers, free Wi-Fi, printing, copying, and faxing services.
The library will operate seven days a week, with hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Although the Express Library operates primarily through self-service technology, security and monitoring systems will be in place. Anythink employees will also conduct regular visits, and telephone assistance will be available when visitors need additional support.
The project introduces a different approach to expanding public library infrastructure throughout Adams County. Rather than constructing a traditional standalone branch, Anythink has developed a smaller storefront location within Reunion's existing shopping district, placing library resources near surrounding neighborhoods, schools, and businesses.
The concept is intended to make library visits easier to incorporate into everyday routines while allowing the library system to expand services without the same building footprint and operating expenses associated with traditional branches.
Anythink first announced plans for the Reunion Express Library in January 2026 and invited local residents to provide feedback on the services and resources they wanted incorporated into the new facility.

The opening also follows a significant year of expansion for Anythink Libraries. In August, the organization opened the nation's first Nature Library, introducing a public library concept centered on outdoor exploration, environmental education, and opportunities to connect with the natural world.
Together, the two facilities represent Anythink's ongoing efforts to explore new library formats designed around the different needs of the communities they serve.
To celebrate the completion and opening of the Reunion location, Anythink will host a free community grand opening event on Wednesday, October 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The celebration will begin with an official opening ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by opportunities for residents to tour the new facility, explore its self-service technology, and participate in activities throughout the day.
Adams County Poet Laureate Aerik Francis will lead a poetry reading and zine-making workshop from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by a family story time from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Refreshments and additional family-friendly activities will also be available.
The event is open to all ages and provides an opportunity for residents to become familiar with the new library before regular operations begin.
