Food Bank of the Rockies Expands With New Hunger-Relief Hub in Aurora

AURORA, CO – Food Bank of the Rockies is in the final stages of its $75 million capital campaign to build a new 270,000-square-foot hunger-relief hub in Aurora. The project comes as demand for food assistance continues to rise across Colorado, with one in eight residents, including one in seven children, living with food insecurity.

After nearly two decades in its current warehouse, the organization has long outgrown its space. The new facility is designed to significantly increase capacity and efficiency, consolidating operations under one roof while creating room to grow in the years ahead.

Project Highlights

The new space will allow the Food Bank of the Rockies to:

  • Triple the volunteer space to accommodate more community involvement.

  • Double cold food storage for fresh produce and perishable donations.

  • Expanded kitchen space to prepare four times more meals for children and families.

  • Annual cost savings of $500,000+, reinvested directly into hunger relief.

In addition to boosting food distribution, the new layout will optimize how donations from grocery stores and vendors are processed and preserved, reducing waste and increasing the availability of nutritious food.

Community Impact

Food Bank of the Rockies serves 32 counties in Colorado and all of Wyoming through a network of more than 800 Hunger Relief Partners. The new Aurora facility will allow the nonprofit to scale its programs, provide more familiar and culturally relevant foods, and expand job training and workforce development opportunities.

“This is more than a building, it’s a hub designed to strengthen partnerships, expand volunteer engagement, and support families across Colorado and Wyoming,” the organization stated.

Final Push

The campaign has raised more than 85 percent of its $75 million goal, with a matching gift from the Fulenwider Family Foundation helping drive the final stage of fundraising.

Construction is underway, with Food Bank of the Rockies aiming to open the new hunger-relief hub later this year.
