Residents Invited to Leave Their Mark on City Park Bandstand Reconstruction

DENVER, CO — Nearly eight months after a fire severely damaged the beloved City Park Bandstand, Denver residents will have an opportunity to become part of its reconstruction during a special community beam-signing event on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

City Park Bandstand After the Fire | Developing Denver

Denver Parks & Recreation, Denver Park Trust, City Park Alliance, and City Park Friends and Neighbors are inviting the public to celebrate the beginning of the bandstand's reconstruction by signing a steel beam that will eventually become part of the new structure overlooking Ferril Lake.

The event comes as crews prepare to demolish the remains of the existing bandstand, which sustained extensive damage during a fire in March 2026. Following a structural assessment, the city determined that the remaining structure could not be repaired and announced plans to reconstruct the landmark.

The reconstruction will incorporate a combination of new steel beams and salvaged materials from the previous structure, including reusable steel beams and the existing stone piers. The project aims to preserve the bandstand's historic character while improving safety, accessibility, and functionality.

For generations, the City Park Bandstand has served as a gathering place for concerts, celebrations, and community events. Although the current structure dates back to 1984, the site's history as a performance venue stretches back to 1896.

Denver Parks & Recreation has contracted Mundus Bishop to lead the reconstruction design, with the new bandstand expected to be completed in June 2027, in time for the 2027 City Park Jazz season.

During Sunday's event, attendees will have an opportunity to meet members of the project team, learn more about the reconstruction plans, view the restoration design, and sign one of the steel beams that will be incorporated into the new bandstand.

The free, public event will take place on Sunday, November 8, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the City Park Pavilion, located at 2001 Steele Street. Light refreshments will be provided.

Residents interested in attending can RSVP through Eventbrite.
