Plans Filed for Expansion and Redevelopment of Mullen Senior Housing Campus in West Highland

DENVER, CO – A site development plan has been submitted for the former Mullen Home campus in Denver’s West Highland neighborhood, where a new project, Mullen Residences at the Highlands, is being proposed as a senior living redevelopment combining adaptive reuse with new construction.

Located at 3629 West 29th Avenue, the 8.25-acre site has been largely vacant since 2022, when the Little Sisters of the Poor closed the facility after more than 100 years of operation. The proposal would redevelop the campus into a full senior living community, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care.

Plans include the renovation of portions of the existing buildings, partial demolition across the site, and the construction of a new five-story residential structure. The project totals approximately 356,000 square feet and includes 215 residential units, along with a 245-space parking garage.

Project plans indicate that select historic elements, including the chapel and portions of the original buildings, would be preserved as part of the redevelopment. The proposal also includes more than 165,000 square feet of at-grade green space across the site.

The development is currently under formal Site Development Plan review with the City of Denver.
