Denver Parks & Recreation has officially opened a new indoor aquatic facility at Swansea Recreation Center, replacing the neighborhood’s aging outdoor pool with a significantly expanded year-round recreation amenity for North Denver residents.

City officials, community leaders, and project partners gathered this week for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating completion of the new indoor pool facility, which was funded through Denver’s voter-approved Elevate Denver bond program and additional support from the Legacy Fund.

Located in the Swansea neighborhood, the new facility was designed to expand access to indoor aquatic programming and recreation in an area of Denver that previously lacked nearby year-round pool access. According to Denver Parks & Recreation, the closest indoor recreation center pool to the neighborhood is nearly four miles away.

The completed facility includes a 25-meter pool with three lap lanes, a zero-entry recreational pool, lazy river, spray features, party room, new locker rooms, changing areas, office space, storage areas, and upgraded operational facilities. One of the project’s most visible features is a two-story waterslide that extends outside the building before looping back indoors.

The project replaces Swansea Recreation Center’s former outdoor pool, which had reached the end of its operational lifespan and required full replacement. Rather than rebuilding another seasonal facility, Denver Parks & Recreation elected to construct an indoor aquatic center capable of operating year-round.

Public outreach and planning efforts for the project began in 2021, with neighborhood residents and youth leaders participating in conversations that helped shape the final design and amenity package.

The Swansea Recreation Center Indoor Pool project was supported through a $22 million investment from Elevate Denver along with additional funding from the Legacy Fund.
