Seven Denver Restaurants, Bars, and Venues Have Closed or Announced Closures This Week
DENVER, CO — A wave of restaurant, bar, and entertainment venue closures has swept through Denver this week, with seven businesses either closing their doors or announcing plans to close in the coming days.
Among the businesses affected are the original 1UP Arcade Bar in LoDo, Church and Union, Rock Bottom Brewery, Mecha Noodle, Two Moons Music Hall, Magna Kainan, and Port Side. The closures span several sectors of Denver's hospitality industry, including restaurants, bars, cafes, and live music venues.
The original 1UP Arcade Bar at 1925 Blake Street served its final customers on June 22 after nearly 15 years in operation. Just blocks away, Church and Union at 1433 17th Street also closed after less than two years in downtown Denver. Rock Bottom Brewery, one of Denver's oldest brewpubs and the flagship location of the national chain, recently closed its longtime home at 1001 16th Street after operating downtown since 1991.
In RiNo, Two Moons Music Hall announced it would close after a two-year run at 2944 Larimer Street. The venue hosted more than 500 shows, events, and private gatherings during its time in operation and had been selected as a venue for this year's Underground Music Showcase.
Several additional closures are still ahead. Magna Kainan, a Filipino restaurant located at 2901 Larimer Street, announced that June 26 will be its final day of service. Nearby, Port Side, a popular breakfast and coffee spot at 2500 Larimer Street, plans to close on July 5 after 10 years in business. Mecha Noodle at 2801 Walnut Street also recently closed its RiNo location.
Notably, the majority of the closures are concentrated in Denver's urban core. Four of the seven businesses are located within Five Points, while three are located in downtown Denver. Several owners have cited rising operating costs, changing consumer habits, economic uncertainty, and the ongoing challenges of operating hospitality businesses in today's market.
While new restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues continue to open across the city, the number of closure announcements over the past week has highlighted the pressures facing Denver's hospitality industry. For many residents, the loss extends beyond the businesses themselves, as several of the affected establishments served as gathering places, neighborhood landmarks, and longtime contributors to Denver's cultural and entertainment scene.
